Horticultural Specialist, Grace Lyon has a college background in Horticulture and Information Technology. Grace started out as a web programmer and earned a Masters Degree in IT in New York (*hire Grace to build you a website*) and quickly realized she would rather spend all of her time outside in nature growing and caring for plants. This inspired her to go back to college and in 2010 Grace received her Bachelor’s of Technology in Horticulture which brought her to Big Island Hawaii for an agriculture and farming internship. She fell in love with Hawaii and has lived there since. Grace has a passion for off-grid living, sustainable landscapes, farm and garden care, grafting tropical fruit trees and plants, organic farming, homesteading and permaculture. Jeremy and Grace met as owners of neighboring farms and nurseries in the Hawaiian Acres Puna Hawaii rainforest, and have worked together in landscaping and nursery since. Grace takes care of the greenhouses, nursery crops, and farm animals on our 6 acre Mountain View Hawaii farm and has a passion for native plants with focus on rare & unusual plants. Her specialty is grafting and pruning fruit trees. In her spare time, Grace grafts different varieties of avocado onto the same tree and creates beautiful and unusual specimen fruit trees for Hawaii landscapes. She loves collecting seashells from Hawaii beaches, camping, fishing and caretaking the Puna Hawaii land.
Stefan is a farmer, traveler, writer and artist living outside of Kapoho on the Big Island of Hawaii. He has a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oregon, and previously worked for several different media organizations in Eugene.
From 2012 to 2014, Stefan served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia, Africa, working in the agriculture and environment sectors, living in a mud hut in a rural, subsistence-based village, and teaching sustainable farming practices including poultry rearing. After completing his service, he traveled through Asia for a year, staying in monasteries, trekking across Himalayan mountain ranges, working on organic farms and surfing and playing music in his free time.
Upon returning stateside, Stefan missed the tropics and decided to move to Hawaii. In his 1.5+ years on the Big Island, Stefan has worked on several different organic farms, helped landscape dozens of properties, installed irrigation systems, painted houses, made glass art – among many, many other odd jobs. He is devoted to a self-sufficient lifestyle, learning how to grow his own fruits and vegetables, how to live off-grid and how to hunt, fish and forage food.
Stefan is a writer, poet and musician. When he’s not caring for land or adventuring around Hawaii, he bides his time writing prose and music and playing rock and roll with other local musicians.
